Don’t Make These Labeling Mistakes!

You work hard to make your business succeed. In addition to coming up with a product that everyone needs and assembling a hardworking team of employees, you have to find creative ways to advertise your business. Your product should stand out in advertisements as well as on the shelves, and consistency and accuracy are key for this to happen. If your product’s labels are misprinted, poorly designed, or just plain wrong, it will hurt your business. Keep reading to find out about a few unfortunate labeling mistakes, and make sure you don’t go down the same road.

Which Is It?

No matter what you’re selling, the label of the product should reflect what the customer is actually getting. Take, for example, a company that makes picture frames. The frame itself says “My Dog” and features dog paw prints, but the stock photo included with the frame is of a cat. While this can be dismissed as an honest mistake, it could make the difference between a customer choosing that frame or one with more effective packaging.

What Are You Buying?

Imagine you’re shopping for groceries, and you’re looking in the produce section. If you came across a package of corn that was labeled as watermelon, would you buy it? Most customers would think twice, as not only is the label wrong, but the pricing is most likely off as well. This mislabeling happens often, such as a sack of corn labeled as onions or a box of blueberries labeled as strawberries.

Where Do You Sit?

If you use images on your labels, it’s essential that the picture reflects exactly what the product is. For example, there is a company that sells toilet seats—but the photo on the label is of a woman reclining her head as though she were in a bathtub. Again, this sort of error can be laughed off, but might affect a customer’s purchasing choice.
